We had to cut down some of the trees on the site to grant us access to certain areas. This was a mammoth task which utilised heavy machinery, but was an essential part of clearing the site, again all the wood went for biomass
When we first got the site, the only thing growing in our polytunnels was weeds!! So, the clean-up started. We hoped that the polytunnels would be good enough for use after a freshen up, we soon learnt that this was not the case!
On the site (where our sales area currently is), was a huge glasshouse. We unfortunately had to remove it, it was not structurally sound and due to the high winds glass would fall and blow from the roof, making it completely unsafe! We painstakingly removed each pane of glass before demolition and obviously Ryan kept spirits high with his jokes (see in pics)! The waste wood went for biomass and the glass we still have (if you want any, feel free to get in touch!)
So, what did we buy?! Basically, a site that mother nature had totally reclaimed 😅 We couldn’t even get through the brambles and overgrowth to reach some areas of the site.
The dream was always to own our own nursery! We have always been obsessed with plants and spent holidays visiting gardens and nurseries. After always looking at other nurseries with envious eyes, we decided to take the plunge in 2012 when Pine Tree Nurseries was advertised for sale in the local Herald. Pine Trees ticked all the boxes for us! Except the one-way entrance 😬, which we think has been significantly improved, even if it is still mono-directional!
