🌲Our Story 🌲 - Week 10

Back to mission polytunnel! Disaster struck at the start of 2014. The polytunnels were not as stable as we thought and were ripped up and destroyed during a storm. So, we started again. The polys were disassembled, and bent poles to be replaced. We took the opportunity to relocate one of them to fit in line with the others. Silver lining and all that!

🌲Our Story 🌲 - Week 9

We found a caravan on site after clearing away the trees, but it soon came to its demise when the roof caved in. We sent it off for scrap and then, once the roads were re-built, decided to get an upgrade! We now use the caravan as a warm place to take our breaks and lunches out of the harsh Cumbrian elements 🥶☔🔥

After re-vamping the roads we could get the fences up! We chose to install deer and rabbit proof fencing due to our location (we didn’t want anything nibbling at our plants!!)

After so much clearing of the site, we needed to improve the access. So we relayed the gravel roads, another major task, but it finally started to look like we were getting somewhere!!

🌲Our Story 🌲 - Week 6

Only after clearing the trees could we see the true extent of how dilapidated the site was. It was all hands-on deck sorting through the mess by hand. We salvaged plant pots, which were disinfected for later use, any broken pots and all the broken glass went to the local recycling, wood went for biomass and the metal was piled and collected for scrap later. Many, many hours were spent sorting through the mess.
